The Role of the Parent

  1. Your child will testify more effectively and with less trauma if you control your own anxiety, perhaps by talking to relatives, friends, or a therapist.
  2. Ask others how you can most effectively help your child in court and make sure that the appropriate legal personnel are handling the case properly. Make use of advocates.
  3. Do not try to investigate or handle the case yourself. This is not your role and can cause harm.
  4. Remember that you already know what the truth is and that the legal decision - however it may turn out - does not change that.
  5. Your most important role is to provide comfort, support, and love to your child during this difficult and trying time.
